What is the Dukan Diet Plan?
The Dukan diet plan was created by a French physician called Pierre Dukan, about 30 years ago. It is a diet plan which is high in protein, but low in both carbohydrates and fat. It aims to redesign dieters eating habits, and at the same time helps them to maintain their true weight entirely. Though the Dukan diet plan has existed for a long time, it has only become popular and followed by a lot of people since the year 2000.
The Dukan Diet Plan Phases
There are four main phases in the Dukan diet plan, which are Attack, Cruise, Consolidation and Stabilization. Each Dukan diet phase has different targets and the allowed foods will be different too.
The first phase is the Attack phase, which will last for 7 days and the target is to kick-start the weight loss. The second phase is the Cruise phase, which is designed for gradually losing weight until the targeted weight is reached. The third phase is the Consolidation phase, which is to avoid regaining the lost weight. The last phase is the Stabilization phase, which will help you maintain your weight for a lifetime with 3 simple rules.
The Dukan Diet Side Effects
Since the Dukan diet plan is a high-protein low-carb diet, it has the same side effects as other low-carb diets. Among the common problems are bad breath, dry mouth, fatigue as well as constipation. You may find these sound familiar as these are also faced by Atkins dieters. There are comments saying that the Dukan diet is the French version Atkins diet.
The Dukan Diet Allowed Foods
The Dukan diet plan does not emphasize calorie counting, BUT the type of food consumed. It proposes dieters eat proteins and vegetables, the foods that founded humans. There are altogether 100 allowed foods. The previous Dukan diet food list consists of 72 proteins and 28 vegetables. However, the proteins have been reduced to 68 while vegetables have been increased to 32 in the new updated Dukan food list. Dukan diet does not limit the consumption amount of the allowed foods as long as dieters eat the foods allowed at the respective phase.
